At the Four Corners Traffic Island, Groton Garden Club members (Penny H, Debbie M, Donna N, Laura S, and Barbara SW) spent many hours tackling its fast-growing weeds, adding mulch, watering, and mowing the grass on Monday, June 29, and Thursday, July 2. This resulted in three full bags of weeds!
We also planted several gaillardias (blanket flower), three nepetas (‘Dropmore catmint’), three shasta daisies (‘Whoops-a-Daisy’, 15″), and a large echinacea (cone flower) at the Adopt-a-Site/Groton Garden Club sign post. We are working to fill in the plot as much as possible in order to reduce the weeding, but without adding a watering chore.
We were pleasantly surprised when a person came by with small American flags to put in the plot. The tidy plot became a colorful accent for Fourth of July holiday travelers.
