Groton Reads & Gardens

Coming in March 2023!

Groton Reads is an Annual Community-Wide Reading Event coordinated by GPL. It asks, “What if everyone in Groton read the same book — or, this year, books?” 2023 marks the 19th year of Groton Reads.

Celebrate community, reading, planting, and growing with family, friends, and neighbors as we partner with the Groton Public Library in celebration of our 100th Anniversary for Groton Reads…AND GARDENS!

Enjoy talks, hands-on programs, and artistic displays—something for everyone—gardeners and non-gardeners alike. We’re planting the seeds now for March. See the Groton Public Library website for more information.

Annual Public Lecture 2023

Sunday, March 5 • 2:00 PM • The Groton Center (163 W. Main St., Groton MA 01450)

John Forti, Getting Young People Involved in Gardening

Known as “The Heirloom Gardener,” John Forti will discuss Engaging Youth and Ourselves in the Spheres of Nature and Gardening.  It draws from John’s life long experience in museums, public gardens, children’s gardens and the local foods movement. We will learn about inspirational ideas we can use to engage kids and young adults, and restore our own engagement with the natural world.  Join us for a refreshing look at how you can make a difference in the lives of children while strengthening family ties and habitat.

John Forti is a garden historian and ethnobotanist who has directed gardens for Plimoth Plantation, Strawbery Banke, the Mass Hort Society, and Bedrock Gardens. He is author of the book The Heirloom Gardener.
